BAKOSURTANAL

Established in 1965 (under the previous name DESURTANAL) and officially being BAKOSURTANAL in 1969 (Badan Koordinasi Survei dan Pemetaan Nasional / National Coordinating Agency for Survey and Mapping).

One of the most important mapping activity histories by BAKOSURTANAL was the boundary mapping in 1971-1998. The National Coordinating Agency for Surveys and Mapping (BAKOSURTANAL) is a non-departmental Government institution formed to conduct related government duties and responsible to the President of the Republic of Indonesia.

In implementing its duties, BAKOSURTANAL executes some functions, such as:

  • To study and create national policies in surveys and mapping;
  • To develop a national spatial data infrastructure;
  • To coordinate functional activities in conducting the agency tasks;
  • To monitor, guide and develop activities of government institutions in the field of national surveys and mapping;
  • To organize, develop and serve general administration in the field of general planning, management organization, personnel, financial, archive, regulation, code and internal affair.

Some activities of BAKOSURTANAL:

  • Spatial planning and base mapping
  • Marine base mapping and aeronautical charting
  • State boundary studies and administrative boundary mapping
  • Development of national geodetic control network frame, gravity and sea tides
  • National natural resources inventory – land and sea features
  • Natural resources and environmental balances
  • Preparation of environment and resources atlases
  • Development of network system, metadata and fundamental data standardization
  • Research and development on surveys and mapping
  • Improvement of human resources capabilities in surveys and mapping
  • Organizing information system and services, socialization and dissemination in the form of workshop, exhibition and map drawing competition for children
  • Formulation of norm, procedures, guidelines, standard and technical specification in the field of surveys and mapping
  • Planning system execution, etc.

Where is Bali?

The island of Bali is part of the Republic of Indonesia and is located 8 to 9 degrees south of the equator between Java in the West and Lombok and the rest of the Lesser Sunda Islands (Sumbawa, Flores, Sumba and Timor) in the East. Flying time to Jakarta is about 1.5 hours, to Singapore and Perth (Australia) 2.5 and 3 hours, to Hong Kong about 4.5 hours, and to Sydney/Melbourne about 5.5 to 6 hours.
